What to Expect When Working With Heritage Fence

Project Timeline and Expectations

Fence installation timelines vary by project, but most are completed within one to several days. Details like fence style, layout, terrain, access, and proper post setting all affect scheduling. We never rush critical steps—especially the foundation—because quality craftsmanship today means fewer issues and a longer-lasting fence tomorrow.

1. Consultation, Planning & Property Review

We begin with an on-site consultation to understand your goals, style preferences, and budget. During this visit, we:

  • Review property lines and confirm fence placement
  • Measure the site and discuss fence styles and materials (wood, vinyl, chain-link, composite, etc.)
  • Identify potential challenges such as slopes, drainage, or existing structures
This ensures the design fits your property and avoids future disputes.

2. Code Review & Permits

Before work begins, we verify all local building codes, height limits, and setback requirements.

  • We determine whether permits or approvals are required
  • If needed, we handle the permitting process for you
This step ensures your fence is fully compliant and worry-free.

3. Site Preparation & Utility Locates

Proper preparation protects your property and keeps the project on schedule. We:

  • Mark fence lines and stake post locations
  • Call utility locators (811) to identify underground lines
  • Remove obstacles, old fencing, or vegetation as needed
Thorough prep prevents delays, damage, and costly corrections later.

4. Post Installation — The Foundation

Fence longevity starts with correctly set posts. We:

  • Dig post holes to the appropriate depth and width for the fence type and local frost conditions
  • Give special reinforcement to corners and gate posts
  • Set posts plumb and secure them—typically in concrete—for long-term stability
This is the most important factor in building a fence that stays straight and strong for years.

5. Fence & Gate Installation

Once posts are set and cured, we install the structure:

  • Attach rails, panels, pickets, or chain-link fabric
  • Install gates with durable, properly aligned hardware
  • Use corrosion-resistant fasteners suitable for local weather conditions
Every component is installed level, secure, and according to manufacturer standards.

6. Finish Work, Cleanup & Final Walk-Through

To complete the project, we:

  • Trim and level fence lines
  • Install post caps and finishing details
  • Apply stain or sealant to wood fences (if included or requested)
  • Perform a final inspection and clean the site thoroughly
We finish with a walk-through and maintenance guidance so your fence looks great and performs well long-term.
